With a legitimate web site, am I automatically on the Yahoo search engine?
If you are in the Yahoo search engine, how can you find your placement without going through hundreds of listings?

I believe you have to add ‘meta tags’ (spelling?) in the HTML coding to be able to be searched (this is not based on actual professional knowledge). Also, I know for a fact that search engines like Google and Yahoo show sponsored results first in searches.

A legitimate web site will normally be indexed by the search engines if another website links to it. You can hurry the process by submitting your site to yahoo for inclusion in their index. You can check placement on line at various sites such as

No, you are not automatically in the yahoo engine. Even though sites get added from web trawls, this can take a while.
Yahoo has been notorious in the past for taking anything between 6 and 12 months to actually list a site and that has been submitting to the engine through their own signup.
Type "site:yoururl.com" in the yahoo engine.
This will return results that have anything to do with that url.
