What's the best way to get an SEM job?
I have a BA in communications with only experience in Collections (my job during college, didn’t do any internships) and would love to get into Search Engine Marketing. How do people break into that industry with no experience? Whats a good place to look for jobs? What are some skills I can attain on my own that would make me more desirable?

Become an affiliate marketer and practice doing SEM yourself. You can also start a blog and drive traffic to your site. Using Google analytics you can see what sources of traffic have been successful and focus on those. Read SEM blogs. Learn SEO. Learn HTML.
For more advice, you can contact me through my own SEO, SEM experiment http://dirtyelection.com. Good luck!
PS. most people doing seo and sem are self taught, so all you need is the desire to learn to be like them and you wil be succesful.
