What does sewer in street mean?
I’m a city girl from the bay area and I’m considering a move up north towards Sacramento and I’ve been looking at real estate in the surrounding areas and it seems that in rural areas there are a lot of listings that say Sewer in Street. What does that exactly mean? I’ve looked around search engines but no one seems to have a definite answer for me. Help!

That means that there’s a sewer under the street. There’s probably a manhole in the middle of the street to prove it too. In terms of smell? Doubtful. You should check out the smell while you are there.

It means that there is a city/town sewerage system connected there and that you are able to use that instead of something like a septic tank.

It means you’re looking at an ad for land with no house. There is a sewer pipe under the public street by the property, but it doesn’t go onto the property yet. When you have a house built, you can connect the house to the sewer system.

This means that your used water from your shower and kitchen would be running in the street sewer, like in open canal. In some rural areas this utilities are not developed well so that the sewer sometimes runs on the side of the street. Hope you got the picture.
