I was wondering how to increace my Alexa rank? Is there another way to see how much traffic i get apart from alexa? i have read up about alexa and from what i can understand people that visit your website that have the alexa toolbar counts but everyone else dosn’t?

Please I need help with another of these copyright infringement issues with the use of images in blogs. I wish I could make up my own mind, only the more I read about it, the more I am confused. Not to mention I am bias of course.

I have in mind to create a blog where I would use vintage advertising prints from a very specific industry to illustrate (keyword here?!) my posts.

The themes of the posts will not be in any way focusing on the brands. The goal will not be to bash that industry, even though it is a controversial one.

Yet these ads, through their pop culture and aesthetic value, would undoubtedly be central to the (potential) success of my blog.

Ex: for a post on the concept of peak oil, I would have a copy of a 1953 ad for brand X featuring a guy whose car broke down and another one of brand Y featuring oil rig workers. Note: I am not, in any way, discussing brand X or Y.

But in all honesty some posts may refer to the specific image at hand, for example, for satirical purposes, or to discuss graphic design issues.

Some other details you may want to take into consideration:
- some of these brands are still in business, others not.
- this blog may be monetize in the future, depending on the audience it attracts.
- I don’t think I would want to spend the time begging for written permissions.

Bottom line, am I safe (and the fair use doctrine is giving me some hope) or am I walking on very, very thin ice and heading into trouble? Would blurring the brands, even though I would rather not, help in any way?

First, let me apologize for not being too technically savvy. Here is what’s happening. I have numerous websites that all sell virtually the same thing to a niche market (crossdressing men). The site I am inquiring about is www.cross-dress.com. It is usually number 8 or so in the organic (natural) search selections for the general search term "crossdressing" (no spaces).

So…here is where I am so confused…I look up my site on Google everyday for the search term "crossdressing" to make sure it is still ranked on the first page of the natural selections. Today I looked it up and didn’t find it at all! Then, I refreshed my page and there it was. I cannot understand how this is happening and would LOVE it if someone who is Google savvy to tell me why. My sites are very established (over 10 years old), and I recently updated the sites which seems to have affected my traffic. I do check a myriad of keyword searches daily and the sites are still ranked pretty high..but the cross-dress.com issue is very troubling since I rely on that site for a lot of my income.

I have been building a travel website together with my girlfriend over the past few months, and it is finally taking shape now. We have recently signed a "contract" for an affiliate program, and receive a lot of help in the form of advice.

I have been very preoccupied with SEO over the past days. I find good keywords via Google and constantly give my site checkups to see how my meta tags are scored. Our website has been added to all large search engines, and we are working hard to add more and more information every day. We also try to add our website to link directories to get our link on as many websites as possible.

Now, what would be a smart way to promote from here? I have been asked to write an article about my website for my universities magazine, so that’s a first thing. Please tell me what you think of our website, and I would really appreciate some advice on promotion options!

I’m an undergrad, and I currently have a marketing internship at Fisher-Price for the summer. The experience is great, and I’m already excited for other possible future marketing internships. Target and Apple seem to have energetic cultures, but what companies really provide a great experience as well as shine on a resume? I want to aim for the best of the best.

And please don’t provide me with another search website. I’m all for links, but not when all it does is takes me to a search engine with "marketing internship" plugged in.
