How to Show Product Images on Your Website

How to Show Product Images on Your Website

When running an online business, the way you showcase your products is very important. Keep in mind that your guests and potential customers cannot physically view the product. If your product is available in retail stores offline then you’re going to need to step up the photography so that potential customers don’t head to the shops to find the same item in a tangible format, and possibly purchase it there.

One of the easiest ways to ensure good quality photographs is to hire a professional photographer. This can be quite expensive, although you can look for new or emerging product/catalog photographers who may need photos for their portfolio. They may do a swap with you ñ they give you their time and images and you allow the use of them so the photographer can showcase their talent. This is a common method used by fashion models and photographers so it’s always worth checking the option out to see if you can save some money this way.

If you cannot find a new photographer and professional shots are outside of your budget, then the goal is to make your photography look as good as possible. Scour other websites and see what techniques they seem to use to get the best presentation of their product and note the best sites include more than one picture, from various angles.

If you have a digital SLR camera you can use this along with some simple online tutorials to capture the best product images that your skill allows. By following instructions carefully you will be able to get adequate representation for your goods. Another option is to ask around and perhaps a friend or family member will help out for photographic credit somewhere on your website.

I can't see my website in 1000 Google ranking:(?

My e-commerce (clothing for women) has been live only for one month and it was set up with a SEO friendly shopping cart. The company that designed my website has to be very good, since I have seen some e-commerce sites they did on the first page of Google while I was looking for them by keywords!
I checked my website in GoogleRanking.com and my site is not in the top 1000! I started writing blogs to get more traffic and registered to other websites to write about my business, post images of my products, contact and links.
I have about 20-35 people a day looking at my site and I sold so far only 3 items!
I heard its tough for new websites and it may take 3-9 months or even more to reach the goals. Is it true? What else can I do to increase traffic to my site without spending lots of money on advertising?
Should I just be more patient and wait? My competition is so huge and now it’s the best season for my business. I am a little bit discourage… Please advice….

Google Adsense question

Okay so on my web site I am marketing a search engine. The page is just a logo, search engine and 3 ads; a banner and two small advertisements with google adsense. So here is my problem: I want each advertisement to be random, where as right now they are all the same but contain the same words (ie: on word in my header is "cross", so almost all of the advertisements the advertisements are "ross book store, ross skiing, cross stitching" etc.). And there are no advertising images, its just text ads. So is there any way i can fix this?

Question about tattoo placement?

Why does a tattoo not hurt as much on your back, behind your shoulder? I heard that’s one of the least painful places to get a tattoo. However, your shoulder blade is there, and doesn’t it hurt to get tattooed on bone? This is the area I’m talking about:

Nail salon using my images for online advertising?

Nail salon using my pictures for online advertising?
A year ago, the old boss i used to work for wanted me to take pictures for her new business nail salon. I did so. Things went sour and I had quit. We agreed that she would credit the pictures when she put it on her website, now she is using those pictures to post all over the web in advertisement and all, what should I do? In what words and ways can I tell her that this is not ok?
I kind of figured I’d get no where with this since there is absolutely nothing in writing. We only agreed on words that she would credit my photos when she put them on her website. But there’s no crediting on her website either. I was a nail tech and I was on my lunch break when I took the photos.

I just figured that if she didn’t credit me on the part she agreed to, that she doesn’t deserve any rights to the images.

Local gossip site posts pictures of people, what is the site's rights?

I watch a website online and on this website, they post local gossip and, if the pictures have been submitted, nude pictures of local celebrities in our city. I’ve seen that a lot of the people on this site threaten to sue or do other similar kinds of legal actions against the site that posts such material. None of these images used on the site are copy-written and are submitted to the site by either readers or the people in the pictures themselves (shameless self promotion). The site clearly says that they’ll post any information passed their way (think WikiLeaks) but the site always says if it is detrimental, they will remove the picture/posts/comments and the like. Also, they have an opt-out ability so that the site doesn’t talk about you.

My real question is: what rights does the site have posting these non-copyrighted pictures of people freely who have freely sent out such pictures to people who have posted to the site?

My understanding is that since the picture is not copy-written, it can be posted on the site. If the picture is of adult nature (nudity), it comes with a short disclaimer of the adult nature of the content, and can be posted. Now, if someone requests that their picture not be on this website, they should remove. I just want more legal grounds to find out what this site’s rights are.

Also: I know that one can only sue for slander if the FALSE information leads to financial or personal detriment.

Please help me understand these rights. Thanks.
Thanks for the information regarding copyright.

I was using copywritten because it sounds funny to say copyrighted to me. My bad :P

I’ll look at the RIGHT OF PUBLICITY for the state (Utah).

Thanks for your information :D

Optimizing Website Graphics and Images

Optimizing Website Graphics and Images

So much has been said about content you’d think content was the only important part of website optimization. But that would simply not be true. Each and every image you use on your site should be optimized for Search Engine Results Pages (SERP). When using an image or graphic file on a website, you must be sure to name the file correctly. Naming an image or graphic correctly can be crucial when a site is scanned or ‘crawled’ by search engines. For example, if you have a site dedicated to Ferrari’s, you wouldn’t want an image on the site to be vaguely called ‘car.jpg’, instead, giving it a proper name will add relevancy and credibility to what the specific page or website site is about. The “alt tag” or alt attribute is a simple code you can add to your image/graphic and is meant to be another option for non-visual browsers when they come across images. This means that the text is used when the image is not visible on the page. Instead, the alternative text or tag is what’s read. In the article, “Describing Your Images for Better Web Accessibility”, Jennifer Kyrnin from About.com lists a few tips on how to successfully use “alt” attributes or tags:

Be Brief – some browsers will break if the alt text is too long.

Be Clear – don’t be so brief that the context is confused.

Be Contextual – don’t describe the image if it’s meant to be viewed in context.

Don’t display your site’s inner workings just describe the image with useful information. Don’t use it only for search engine optimization – Many websites developers think that if they use “alt” text as an SEO tool, they can “fool” the search engines by using a keyword on the alt tag that is not relevant. However, this can backfire. Because if the search engine decides you are trying to fake your results, your website will be completely removed from the search engine results.

XHTML Title Attributes is another key factor that needs to be added to the different elements on your website such as images/graphics, links, forms, etc. This is a very versatile way to provide more information to visitors or readers on your site. To give you a better example of what this means, if you view sites in modern browsers and hover over images/graphics or links, you’ll see a short title or description come up in a small box. This is a very advantageous way to help optimize your site or specific web page as this will also help that particular page or section of the site become more accessible in search results or page ranking.

If the images or graphics on your current website are not optimized, you are missing out on a very valuable component of Search Engine Optimization.

Optimizing website design?

In your experience, what tips do you have for the optimal web design? Smaller images? Larger width? Best ad placement? What keeps a user coming back to the site? (design wise)
I am building a written content-based site that will allow users to submit their own content. I already have the code for it, but designing is really getting to me. I am more of a coder than a designer, so i am sort of stumped here. Any suggestions for a blog/stories design?
