I am looking for cheap/free ways to promote my website. Does anyone have any ideas?

Create a page of it on facebook, myspace, ttwitter, linked-in, any other social networking site, put it into the ‘signature’ bit of your emails and any other communiquess.
Create a couple of podcasts and upload them onto a free podcast website (you could call them infomercial podcasts).
Design some clear and concise cards that you can pay your corner-shop owner a small weekly fee so that you may display them in his shop window.
Use phoneboxes (prostitutes do that here in the UK and i havent read any news of anyone ever getting into trouble for that).

First of all, I would email it to all your friends and BEG them to pass on the news of its existence. Second of all, I would do the same thing with all your Facebook friends (assuming you have one, and especially if you have more "friends" on Facebook than you do in real life). Next I would go to online discussion forums and just tell people all about it. Online chat rooms are also a great place to tell people about your website, especially if you go into a chat room concerning the subject to which your website pertains. Again, when you are doing all this, be sure to strongly stress the fact that you want to people to pass on the word. I’ve had several friends who have done all this VERY successfully, and without much effort at all. In fact, I plan on advertising my blog in the exact same manner based on how well they’ve done.
