I made a new website www.onlinetalkz.com but i dont know to about promoting my website.Can anyone tell me how to go about getting more backlinks?

Everybody has already learned all the tricks about ‘generating hits". They don’t work any more. 100,000 people are all doing the same thing. You can do it also at http://www.google.com/local/add and register. If your city is added to a search, your site will show up first. The other hints are at google.com/support/webmasters.
Call a reporter for a local newspaper and ask if she will interview you. If so, everyone in your community will hear about your site.
30,000 sites per month are added to the internet. Too many..

To get great back links you need great content. Great content will generate back links automatically. Get other great sites with content that is related to your content to link and you are in business and on your way up link chain.
