How many keywords do I need for the best SEO?
Ive heard the more the better, but I also heard people just say that so you use A LOT then you get bad seo (helping them). Research has shown me to believe 3-5 words for main page, then one good keyword for each other page. PLEASE HELP

First off, it’s important to understand the difference between keywords and keyword phrases. You want to actually use keyword phrases not just keywords. These are called "long-tail" keywords and they are more specific in terms of search results. So, instead of bats or baseball bats perhaps antique wooden baseball bats. In this sense you want 1 keyword phrase you actually are targeting for each page or post you are promoting. Additionally you should have 2 or 3 (no more) addtional secondary keyword phrases on the page.
Your primary keyword phrase should be in the title tag, in the h1 tag, in the content on the page, in the first paragraph, at the very end. You don’t want to overdue it or the search engines will spot that and flag you. But, basically, use the main phrase 2 or 3 times in about 250-300 words of text.
Use your secondary key phrases in h2 tags. They lend credence to your stated targeted keyword in what is called latent semantic indexing. (Fancy words which basically mean other words that google expects to be near by certain words. For example, if your target word were fork, google would expect other similiar words to be present like spoon, plate, table, eat, etc.)
You can add into your page variations on the targeted keyphrase however, like single and plural versions or other words people might use instead like "house" and "home" and "real estate."

SEO is I think is an ocean and cannot be easily understood. There will be varying standards and strategies by different search engines. they also frequently change their search algorithms. I would keep a dozen or so keywords in your meta info, but the meta description is what’s really important. You should use a tool like the google adwords tool to evaluate which keywords are going to be best for you.Keep your descriptions at around 158 characters for optimal results.

by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic

and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
