How do you do SEO and SEM?
I have an oDesk account and was looking through and saw that two of the marketing sections were Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing. I’ve done SMM but have no idea how SEO and SEM would even been attempted.

They are very Huge Subjects and it can’t be explained here.. i prefer you to read some e-books (brad callen’s, dave taylors etc..) or go through some online tutorials to get basic idea on SEO and SEM.

SEO and SEM are the two common terms used by the webmasters. But there is a big difference in their meanings and techniques. SEO which refers to anything you do on your website to make it more users and search engine friendly. Whereas SEM stands for search engine marketing, which refers to anything you do to get your page ranked high on the search engine from SEO services to requesting back links to URL submissions at engines.

Yeah, It’s really a big topic and you need to pay a lot of energy and time , to be a SEO/SEM expert. You can find many good introductory tutorials on internet.I suppose http://www.freesearchengineoptimizationtools.com can help you alot in learning SEO. It has some basic tutorials and resources for any SEO newbie.
As Kranthi said these two are huge subjects and mastering them would require a lot of time. Its true that odesk shows up with a huge amount of job postings that require either of the two mentioned skills but if you want to get hired for any of these jobs, you’ll first have to spend a lot of time learning the skills of SEO and SEM through books and tutorials.
