M8 i got the same issues but after reading loads n loads of info the conclusion is in my opinion, make a well designed site include meta n keywords etc and get links to the site from others, from there you really sre at the mercy of the individual search engines which can take weeks to recognise the improvements you have made.
There is no quick fix regardless of all those companies that recone they can get you on the first page etc. Also try advertising in printed publications ratherthan rely on organic sales…………….. its a long journey.

The key to it is link building, and it is possible to get listed with-in 48 hours.
The secret is that you have to get links from sites that get crawled daily or even several times a day. These are mostly directories of some sort.
You can do it yourself, but if you are asking this question, and not to be rude, it is going to take you a while to do it. There are SEO companies that offer a service to get you listed this quickly, because they already know what sites to do it for and have programs that do the submitting for them. I have seen companies offer this service for less then $5.
As far as getting listed in the top 5. Well that is a bigger topic all together and it will require SEO (search engine optimization).
Good Luck

Search engines are not the only way to drive traffic. Try advertising in some PTR site. Dont go for well established sites, that will cost u a lot.. go for sites which has been launched recently like http://earn121.tk , the cost will be less and the result, good traffic.

One of the ways to escape the sandbox faster is by having links pointing to your site slowly, inconsistently (consistent backlinks will make your backlinks strategy look fabricated), and let the amount of backlinks you accumulate grow exponentially over a period of several weeks. One of the best ways to achieve this is by advertising your site locally offline, and running a PPC campaign. If you have quality content and perhaps a commenting or community factor, your site will start accumulating links gradually. Focus on advertising amongst demographics who actually have the power to link back to you, e.g. webmasters, bloggers, press officers, etc.
Make sure that your links are of high quality and come from sites with relevant topics.
You will have to build in some waiting time no matter what, as accruing backlinks is a slow process. Forcing the speed with which you acquire backlinks will just make you look dodgy in the eyes of the search engines. If you accidentally accrue a high volume of backlinks just after launching your site and subsequently run into trouble, contact Google and Yahoo directly (although they are likely not to be of much help).

Usually it takes some weekS for search engine show up your site if is very well optimized, but what you could do while waiting those weeks. Search for Pay Per Click sites and list yours there. You will have inmediatelly visitor to your pages.
In this case I have found Mas4u Toolbar where you can advertise for free and it is getting pretty big. After your insert your banner(s) they appear inmediately in the entire website and in the Toolbar. It is pretty interesting how they do that.

The quickest way to get noticed by search engines is to invite them to crawl your site.
Submit a site map to Google and Yahoo. (Go to business solutions). This does a couple of things: (1) it tells the search engine where you are (URL) and it provides all of the links to all the pages that make up your site.
Search engine spiders follow links from one site section to another so, by submitting a site map, you invite spiders to crawl your site AND you provide them with all links, making it more likely that your site will be completely and accurately indexed within the search engine.
Hope that helps,
