First, don’t over emphasize page rank. It doesn’t really mean much at all. Second, download SEOQuake. It has all kinds of usefullness. It really rocks in Google search engine results pages. You’ll love it!

In addition to the google toolbar that you can download (and then voluntarily share your surfing habits with google), there are add-ons available if you use firefox. There are also many sites that allow you to check the pagerank of one or more pages, including my site that allows you to check the pagerank of up to 500 pages of a site at one time:

As mentioned above, pagerank is not really that important. But, it will generally improve as you gain backlinks from quality sites that have a high pagerank and if you do not violate google’s webmaster guidelines (don’t buy links with high pagerank just for the sake of improving your pagerank). It is more important to improve the position of your site when people are searching for keywords relevant to your site (SERPs or search engine results pages).

to improve pagerank (pr) obtain quality links from other websites.
Quality links are those from reputable sources on related topics. A good measure is the pagerank of the linking site. This will take considerable time and effort to obtain even an half decent PR of 4-5.
Googel toolbar PR is only updated every 3-6 months, though the PR used for search results is updated more frequently (continously?)
