I agree with Indigo – http://www.topseos.com is a good place to start; as is http://www.seomoz.com marketplace. If you have a local chamber of commerce, ask them if they can recommend someone in your local community. Do a Google search for "search engine optimization" "the name of your industry", "the name of the city or town that you live in". And of course, check references.

I’m not going to bother touting myself as an SEO nor pretend I’m not me but someone who used me and praise my services that way …

Cute products. Check the websites they have worked with – the PR, keyword ranking on SERPS, and traffic from Alexa. Contact the website owner to confirm the company’s credibility for SEO work.
