some advertise your website or blog for free, although if you want to get good advertising, then I suggest that you go with the major search engines. (I would recommend Yahoo)

To get on the map you really need to invest money or time in unique, quality content. Assuming you do that, and your website ticks all the right boxes, then here are a few tips on starting out:
1. Submit your blog to blog directories. Do this manually and over a period of weeks – avoid auto-submission tools, as gaining 1,000 links per day looks spammy to Google / Yahoo. Look at Robin Good’s ‘Top 55′ list (there are 200+ directories in there now).
2. Submit quality articles to delicious, Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit etc. Add their buttons to your web pages. Build up friends on these sites. And never overdo it.
3. Issue a press release. Distribute via the press release sites, and look out for ones that allow you to link back to your site using anchor text (aka link text – say something meaningful rather than ‘click here’; be descriptive in links and your headlines).
4. Brush up on your SEO skills. All good writers working online should know a thing or two about Google. The way you write is very important. It is also essential to think about how people might search for articles like the ones you create. The more you learn about this, the better you will do.
5. Apply to the news aggregators (Google News, Yahoo News, NewsNow, etc). Depending on the quality, frequency and newsworthiness of your content you may be accepted into one of the news aggregators. A sure-fire way of pulling in some traffic.

Its hard now a days to get traffic to a website. So much COMPETITION, YOU ARE BARLY NOTICED. MANUALLY ARDVERITISING IS NOT THE BEST WAY TO GO NOW A DAYS. IT WAS THREE YEARS AGO BUT, THINGS HAVE CHANGED. I use traffic machines to get my web traffic now a days and, I am spending less time on the computer. I have gotten most about 1000 visitors to my website a day. Not that many people know about it and its not going to be offered for a long time.
