Hopefully it’ll be a positive trcrtaeojy. Thankfully “visual journalism” is right there at the top of the page, which signals to me a concerted step away from the celebrity pictures that take up most of the photo areas of the websites of Newsweek and Time. David Burnett’s work on Bob Marley, , is getting a little close to that, but relative historical significance and quality of the photos raises the post well above the paparazzi dreck. I’m also particularly intrigued that Lens “also seeks to highlight the best work of other newspapers, magazines and news and picture agencies; in print, in books, in galleries, in museums and from around the Web.” Not too long ago, news sites wouldn’t even make links to off-site material. The Times changed their position on that a while back. Now they’re using this blog not so much as a PR tool for the Times’ own work but rather as a destination for historical and contemporary photojournalism. Looks good to me so far, and I hope it continues to impress.
