Google too picky in terms of SEO?
I think that Google is a little too picky when it comes to SEO. Because they completely ignore well keyword-optimized Websites, and they ban your site if it is well optimized. In other words, they punish you for optimizing your site.
And they don’t give well-optimized sites much PR credit either.
As a result, Google can index non-relevant Websites and rank them at the top for your keywords.
Not to mention that Google is very picky about who you link to. You only have a few options for link building in terms of optimizing your Website for Google.
I know that spam is a huge issue on the Internet, and I know that Google tries their best to reduce spam, but I think they take it too far. Googlebot should actually look at the site and determine if it’s a spam site or not.
Search engines should rank sites that are well keyword-optimized, which is the point of searching for something. They want to find sites that are optimized for their keywords that they search for, not something that has a bazillion kajillion links.

If your site is banned you probably optimized it too much. Too much, so that Google thinks it’s spam. I’m number one in the search results with certain keywords for my website. It does take time to get there, but I think if you overdo it with the keywords Google will pick up on it….

I feel your pain, but…
you have to remember that Google is more about automation and less about human interaction when thinking in terms of SRO. In other words, they just don’t have the manpower to visually discern what’s good and what’s not.
It makes sense, then, to grab their attention without "a bazillion kajillion links" if you want to be seen high on the list. Anyone can get buried three hundred pages deep – but that’s not what yu want.
Is the Google system perfect? Nope. Are they bazillionaires? Yup. You gotta give them credit for at least knowing how to show me the money.

Have you read Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide (PDF format) that Google released last Nov 12 on their official blog? It could give you a better idea of how to optimize your site with Google

Yes, Google is very picky as to who you link to. They don’t want people gaming their system, exchanging reciprocal even 3 or 4 way links to boost their pagerank. They want you to get links the natural way — because you’ve got such great content that other websites will want to link to you voluntarily.
It’s not easy. But hey, people keep gaming their system. So they have to step it up and put in new algorithms that will stop their gaming, making it even harder to get to the top of their rankings
Links is only one part of the equation. In the last webmasters chat of Google, they mentioned that their algorithm has about 200 factors, one of which is pagerank. They did not say of course what those factors are, but suffice to say that links is not the be-all and end-all of Google
