~ (EOD) Explosives Ordinance Disposal Jobs?
I am interested in learning about this job, as a civilian in the United States.
I have former military record (Honorable Discharge, 31F MOS), but I am not eligible to reenlist in any branch of the military or civilian police, due to physical injuries.
I am interested learning about a job in ordinance disposal as a civilian, what education I need, and what companies hire for this. ((The US contracts with companies for some of it’s EOD operations)).
Any information would be appreciated, I’ve run into a brick wall using search engines, due to all the military/police listings.
Thanks.

If you are truly interested in EOD work…
In the civilian sector, it is known as Unexploded Ordnance (UXO). The very first step, you must become a UXO Technician level 1. This can be accomplished by attending a 5-week course at Texas A&M. Here is their website.
http://www.teex.com/teex.cfm?pageid=publicsafetyprog&area=publicsafety&templateid=1469
This course will set you back $7000 + lodging for 5 weeks, but average starting pay for a Tech 1 is about $22.00/hour + per diem rates and fringe benefits!
Everything that you need to know about getting your feet wet in this industry, you will learn at that school, to include job placement. You will have no luck getting on with any UXO company if you are not at least qualified at the Tech 1 level.
