The search engine will post your website for free — called organic ranking — if your site is able to do well in the various factors used by the search engines to rank websites. Your site must be better than millions of other sites in your keywords for it to get good rankings. Your goal should not be mere inclusion in the SEs databases; but rather to rank high. It is pointless to be on page 98 of the search engine results because most people do not go farther than page 3. So your goal is to be within the first 3 pages at the very list; or shoot for the moon and get a top 10 ranking.

Search engines look at the following factors in ranking websites, though in varying degrees of importance:

- Age
- Quality and Uniqueness of Content
- Keyword density
- How it fares in the results (are people clicking on the site when it comes up in the search results and how long are they staying?)
- Site structure
- Backlinks
