Can you recommend a website that shows you how to optimize Windows Vista Home Basic on a new Dell Laptop?

Just got a new Dell Inspiron 1501 with windows vista home basic (hope it wasn’t a mistake). I am totally unfamiliar with this operating system as well as dells. Is there a good site to tell me how to configure it for better performance (heard its’ a real system hog) and also maybe to remove some of the preinstalled crap I don’t need? Thanks.

WHY did you get Home Basic? You should have gotten at least Home Premium, or else it’s just not worth it.
