Air Force-Dress Blues and promotion question?
Does anyone know a site where I can see exactly how my dress blues are supposed to be worn (I’m a perfectionist) as in ribbons, how long the pants are supposed to go, etc. And I received a statement of service, in which i noticed that it said I was promoted. My chief confirmed that this was true. Can they promote people without telling them? I’m not complaining by any means, just wondering.

there is an air force reg for this i am sure you are aware of it go to your chief in charge and he will let you know all this. no they are suppose to let you know. generally they do tell people before they get their stripes.

You want to pull up a copy of 36-2903 pronto. Go to http://www.e-publishing.af.mil. You can do this at home; you don’t need a CAC card reader to access it.
I’m not sure you got a statement of service, you normally request one when you are buying a house or retiring….could you have received an IDA?
It would have been better if your supervisor had notified you that you were being promoted.

If you were promoted within the ranks E1-E4 then your promotion is calculated based on your time in service and time in grade, this means that you may be promoted at any date during the month. After E4 you test for promotions and all E5′s – E9′s are promoted on the first day of the month in the month indicated by their line number.
You can google "AFI 36-2903" for the dress and appearance reg. You can also google "VMPF" and log onto the Virtual MPF, there is a link in there to review your records and you can look at a display of all your awards in the proper order.
Congrats on your promotion!
